SIKLOS® (hydroxycarbamide) for Sickle Cell Disease

LUMIDERM® 6000 is a porous, semi-permeable, absorbent and highly conformable wound dressing consisting of a thin micro-porous polyurethane foam membrane coated with an adhesive. Its specificity is based on the difference between the two surfaces of the foam. The inner surface in contact with the wound is micro porous. The pores (average diameter: 100 µm) go through the membrane thickness as hydrophilic tubules. The exudates of the wound progress there by capillarity, carrying cellular and bacterial fragments. On the contrary, the outer surface of the dressing, which is composed of finer pores (diameter lower than 0.1 µm) is impermeable to liquids and bacteria but highly permeable to moisture vapour. This structure creates the ideal environment for wound healing: LUMIDERM® 6000 isolates and protects the wound, maintaining a moist environment but preventing maceration. Furthermore the adhesive of LUMIDERM® 6000 consists of hydrophobic acrylic copolymer: in contact with water, the adhesive properties are lost. This explains that LUMIDERM® 6000 sticks perfectly to the healthy skin around the wound but not to the wound itself. In addition, due to elastic qualities and flexibility, LUMIDERM® 6000 is adaptable to any anatomical contours and decreases the wound edge tension. This wound dressing is used by numerous teams in the surgical wounds, notably when some mobility is required (hand surgery, orthopaedic surgery) and when wound edge tension reduction is sought (plastic surgery).
